Cautiously optimistic that going out might be a thing again...
Super hot in MA this weekend - and super humid. So my 53 miles out to Harvard and back were a bit of a slog on Saturday morning.
I'm never unmoved by what a beautiful area we live in.
The curried chicken salad sandwich I found at the Harvard General Store tasted good going in. But man. Curried chicken on a super hot day made for a miserable ride home. Error.
The QuaranTEAM was scattered to the winds this weekend, but the Holsts were up for a drink and then dinner - out! - at the Local.
Just four masked crime fighters, out for a night on the town.
When we got back, Trystan joined us for a night cap.
For her part, Syl became the first Haley to truly get away during Quarantine. She went to her friend, Meredith's NH lake house for an overnight to celebrate Meredith's birthday. There, among other things, Syl dominated in the aquatic chicken fight arena.

Mid-week break
Last night, Melissa and Syl asked if I could possibly join them on their biweekly breakfast/bike/lunch date to Holliston. The calendar cooperated. It was hot, but a lot of fun!
First, a Coffee Haven donut.
Melissa is getting more comfortable on her bike (meaning: she doesn't look constantly in danger of crashing or falling).
Holliston has done a really, really nice job on its rail trail. Wayland could take some tips.
See M and S up there?
Lunch was outside at Noon Hill Grill - the first restaurant I've been that felt more or less the same as ever it did.
In ordinary times, if you saw a character like this skulking around the railroad, you'd call the constable.
Grilled cheese. What else?

The 4th felt like the 4th (and so did the 5th)
This was the first weekend since this whole thing started, pretty much, that we have not hosted anyone. Of course that doesn't mean we didn't cook. I think we finally have the Egg pizza down pat!
And of course we had to have Kaileigh over - just not on Saturday. Rose joined, fresh out of quarantine.
Syl decided to try one of her mom's online workout classes. Two peas in a pod, these two.
The pups played tug.
Melissa and Syl made 4th of July cookies.
And we headed OUT to the O'Learys' on the 4th to celebrate by the pool, low key.
On the 5th, the Duffys came home from NH to host their traditional 4th of July party, a day late and a little bit smaller than usual. It really felt normal, though. Which was nice.
This party and these people have a special place in our hearts, because the Duffys were the first people in Wayland to welcome us with an invite to this party when we first moved here, never having so much as met us. Good people.
Look who got in the pool!
Brad is a beast.
Patriots, these two.
It was good to catch up with friends and neighbors who we have not seen in months, including Amanda (who is still at athena).
The drone came along and got some fun shots.
There were even fireworks, until a massive thunderstorm brought things to an abrupt end.
I got a text from Melissa saying she and Syl (who had gone home in front of me) couldn't find Bruschi. "He's hold up somewhere in the house, I guarantee it," I said to Brad and Alyssa before heading home. Sure enough, we found him in an upstairs guest bathroom, trying to wedge himself behind another toilet. This guy does NOT like thunder storms.
Plenty more photos where these came from, in the July 2020 gallery.
