Florida Christmas!

Sylvie's Grammy and Grampy Haley delayed their Christmas until Sylvie could come and visit.  This year, "Florida Christmas" fell on January 17!  Here are just a few clips.

Even though Florida was a little bit cold - for Florida, mind you - while we were there, we did manage to spend some time in the pool and at the beach.  Sylvie preferred the pool, for now.

Trip to the Naples Zoo

A highlight of our recent trip to Florida was Sylvie's trip to the Naples Zoo with Grammy and Grampy. She started out underwhelmed, but then had a burst of energy and enthusiasm... which she promptly burned up when she insisted on walking. She kept pace with the rest of us for a good ten minutes, though! By the end, even a roaring lion couldn't hold her attention. Our little girl wanted a nap!

Bookends to our Florida trip

I'm still wading through the several hours of video I took in Florida.  Here are a couple of cute clips - the "bookends" to the trip.  In the first, Sylvie gets a birthday gift from Aunt Willow and then sets out to explore Grammy and Grampy Haley's house.  She likes the layout: wide open, with plenty of room to run and not much to fall over.  She also likes the ready availability of golf balls...

In the second, Sylvie experiences her first crush (and her last for the next thirty or so years, if I have anything to say about  it).  Marcos was a little boy on both our flights to and from Florida - though he and Syl didn't actually meet until we were waiting for the return flight.  They entertained the entire gate area.  I'll say this for Marcos: he certainly wasn't the aggressor.  With the exception of the take-down at the end, he was the perfect gentleman.  And he has a very nice older sister named Maya.  Perhaps Sylvie can look him up when she's forty or so.

Fun time with the Liggetts

Sylvie had a great time this weekend playing with her friends, Alex and Sydney Liggett.  Mom and Dad had fun seeing their friends too.  Thanks to Alex and Sydney for sharing their toys.  A few photos here and many more in the January gallery.  As you will see, though they shared well most of the time, Syl and Syd did have a little competition going for a while over Alex's Spiderman chair.  All ended on friendly terms, however, when both tired of the game.

It ended up being too chilly (in FL terms) last week for TOO much pool time, but as you can see Sylvie enjoyed the time she had. She especially liked her dragon, and splashing with Grampy. The floating seat left her a little cold, because she couldn't splash, but it was good for a breather. I have some video too, of course, when I get around to putting it together. Selfish Dad milestone

Last night Syl was in bed before I got home, and I'm going to be late tonight, so this morning I stayed home a little later than usual so that I could see her for a few minutes. She was playing on the kitchen floor as I went to leave. I waved and said "bye-bye" and for the first time she burst into tears. Then she stood up and walked over to me with her hands up for a hug. That was the first time I've gotten that kind of reaction, and I have to admit that it was a great feeling - so much so that after she calmed down I said "bye" and waved again, kind of hoping she'd repeat the performance... She didn't. By then she was on to something else.

Missing the warm weather already!

Sylvie had a great time in Florida with Grammy and Grampy Haley this week.  She misses them (and the warm(er) weather)!

In the meantime, I'll note that Crystal, Sylvie's/Melissa's freaky doll, avoided burial by a 5 to 2 margin.  I suspect ballot box stuffing by pro-Crystal factions.

Safe and Sound in FL

As you can see, Syl and her folks made it to Grammy and Grampy's house, safe and sound, and are today celebrating our "Florida Christmas."  These great photos are courtesy of Aunt Willow. Sylvie loooooves Grampy's golf balls - there are already a great many lost all over the house.

Sylvie's "New" Baby-Doll

Sylvie's Mom today gave her the "gift" of Mom's old "baby-doll," named Crystal.  I'm not going to mince words here - the thing creeps me out.  Watch this video, and then vote in the poll in the right-hand column.

Sylvie extends her heartiest congratulations to Aunt Emily and now Uncle Bearded Guy!  She had a great time at their wedding in Burlington this weekend (as did we all).  The video will take a little while but promises to be a good one.  Here are a few of Syl's favorite still shots.  Many more in the wedding gallery here.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year from Holliston!

Sylvie ushered in 2009 with friends and family at the O'Leary House, where she was joined by Aunt Naomi and soon-to-be Uncle Ben II, and a whole bunch of her friends.  Figuring most of the kids (and, truth be told, the adults) wouldn't make it to midnight, we celebrated New Years along with the good citizens of the Azores, at 8pm EST.  Dad didn't have his camera to record the festivities (!!!) so we'll have to wait on some shots from Brendan and Trystan.
