DC school-ish trip

Wayland Middle School has a decades-long tradition of taking the 8th graders on a trip to DC. This year the trip was off, then on, then off again. A group of intrepid PTA parents decided to make it happen regardless. Sylvie and I decided to join in, coordinating our plans with her friend Kaileigh and Kaileigh’s mom and little brother.

A taste of history in our front yard

 Every Patriots Day, the Sudbury MinuteMen march from Sudbury to Concord for various reenactments and commemorations. Because the modern Concord bears zero resemblance to the historical one, the reenactors are prohibited from discharging their (fake!) firearms in the town. So the group stops at the town line, directly in front of our house, and fires their muskets.

egg hunt!

 Gigi was in town for Easter weekend, and the weather cooperated, so we hosted an Easter Egg Hunt Sunday morning and had the Holsts join us. The kids seemed to really enjoy it!

It was somewhat jarring to see Syl graduate to a supporting role, after being the primary huntress for the past dozen years. Time passes, and she loved helping her little cousin find eggs.

Sprung Spring

It's still cool in the evenings and on some days doesn't get out of the 40s, but the flowers are popping and the sun feels warmer.

Girls on a mission

Last night Sylvie mentioned that she had heard of Baked Alaska and was intrigued. Where, and why, Baked Alaska? Who knows. But I accepted the challenge, and found us the only restaurant in Metrowest which, according to my sources (Google), served Baked Alaska. 

It is now Syl’s favorite dessert.
