Feeling better

I'm happy to report that Sylvie has been fever-free today. I kept her home from school, though, because she still had a temp last night. Sylvie was more than happy to spend her day home walking Sophie and shopping for shoes for Willow's wedding. Back to normal life tomorrow!

Seriously???

Sylvie has even kind of weary all day. Nothing too bad - just droopy. She felt warm at bed time, so we took her temp. Sure enough: 102.8... And an hour and a half later here she is on the couch, recovering from a bad fever nightmare and munching ice cubes.

Even as some variety of stomach bug continues to rage through the area we are hoping against hope that this fever isn't a precursor of another bout. In any event, this is illness number 3 for January, officially making this month LOUSY.

Happy 6th Jake!

We celebrated Jake's 6th today at Fun And Games, an arcade that has been in the same spot in Framingham for more than 30 years.  Scary, but once in the door I could clearly remember attending birthday parties there myself as a kid, back when Asteroids, PacMan, and Space Invaders were the most popular games in the joint.

Most of the games award tickets, that then can be redeemed for prizes.  All told, that inflatable candy cane (???) Sylvie is holding probably only cost the O'Learys $100 or so!

By the way, check out Melissa's new 'do!!

Common Interests

Went to the park today to let (super fast!) Sophie run off some energy. I told Sylvie it was silly to go to the playground because (a) it was frigid outside, and (b) Sophie wouldn't be interested.  I was wrong.  They did this about 10 times and probably would have kept it up all day if I hadn't insisted on getting indoors.

Common Interests

No reading - PLAY!!!

All continues to go well with Sophie's assimilation, with one small exception: she seems to have decided that I'm the only one she'll go to the bathroom for.  The result of this is that she holds it all day long - 12 hours or more - and either has an inside accident shortly before I get home, or a marathon elimination session when we go out for our evening walk.  Not sure how to handle this one... but it will undoubtedly be easier when it isn't zero degrees outside!

Sylvie's art today

Guess who this is?

And a few hours later...

... There goes the "no couch" rule.

Things are evolving quickly around here

Sophie arrived Saturday night. Melissa's initial rule was: no dog on the furniture. Certainly no dog on the beds.

This is Sophie sitting precisely where she slept last night, Sunday night, a mere 24 hours after her arrival - with Melissa's blessing.  Sylvie, of course, was beyond excited at her real live "stuffed animal." She pretended to be annoyed that Sophie woke her this morning by licking her face, but she couldn't stop grinning while recounting the tale.

Tongue bath

Kind of wigging Melissa out a bit... but one of Sylvie's favorite things is to get down on the floor and get her face "washed" by Sophie's kisses...

Sometimes, though, they are content to just gaze lovingly at each other.

Taking the reins

One of the many benefits we are discovering to a smaller dog is the fact that Sylvie can manage Sophie on the leash - a responsibility that she takes very seriously.

Welcome Home, Sophie!!! (Updated with Video!)

Sophie made it safe and sound and none the worse for the wear of a 6 hour flight.  She was a little shaky when she came out of the travel crate, and insisted on riding home not only in the front seat but in my lap! But after about 5 minutes of playing with Sylvie she was in full puppy mode, without a care in the world!

For her part, Sylvie was dog shy for about the same five minutes.  She quickly realized that Sophie is gentle as can be even while being extremely playful.  They spent most of the evening dashing about, rolling around on the floor, and playing tug. Tons of happy giggling in the house tonight.

It makes me sad to say it, but Pax and Sylvie never had a chance at this kind of relationship. He was too old and too big, and she was too young and too little. They just kind of put up with each other.

On the other hand, the last thing Sylvie said tonight was "Good night Sophie! You're an awesome dog!"  Add that to the many times she told her new pup that she loves her, and I think we saw the beginnings of a wonderful friendship.

Thanks for trusting us with Sophie, Aunt Kem and Uncle Pat. We'll take great care of her - all three of us.
