Our first run was a top to bottom, which at Snowmass is a LOT of skiing. So when Syl asked for a massive chocolate filled scone, it seemed to me she’d earned it.
Later in the day she met some wildlife up close. You can’t tell how fast Syl was going from the photo, but this little squirrel was almost squashed! Syl named him, “Gutsy.”
Much of the day was snowy, especially on the top half of the mountain where we spent most of our time to avoid the crowds.
By noon, Syl felt ready to try her first black diamond. Black diamonds at Snowmass are no joke. There is a reason they are deemed “expert.’ Showcase is pretty challenging. We did that first.

Reidar’s is REALLY challenging - steep, bumpy, and narrow. She blew down like a pro, with only one wipeout—and that one only because she misjudged a pile of powder for a solid that she could launch over, and instead plowed into it and took a tumble. She earned this big piece of pizza (everything tastes better after skiing, for some reason!).

We ended the day, and the week, with one more ride to the top of the mountain, which by 4pm was shrouded in a snowy cloud that nearly killed visibility.
This kid became a skier this week! And with Melissa on her way, we’re already looking forward to next year!
