Seven Years Ago Today

Doesn't seem like that long ago.
To celebrate, last night Melissa had the excellent idea to go into Cambridge and visit the Cantab Lounge, where we had our very first date (our first date was a Bluegrass concert).
First we had an excellent dinner at a nearby restaurant.  When we told the hostess we were heading to he Cantab, she looked at us like, "are you sure?"  The Cantab... has character.  It was just as we'd remembered it - chemical toilet smell and all.  The band was fantastic though.  Also with a lot of character.

We had Candace, the babysitter, snap an iPhone photo of our anniversary champagne toast.  It didn't come out... so together we turned it into the cheesiest photo we could manage.

Happy anniversary, Melissa!

On the Hunt

Melissa took Sylvie to an Easter Egg hunt right up the street at the Lutheran Church, with the O'Learys.  Though there was an egg quota that some - particularly Jake - found vexing, a good time was had by all.  Easter is almost here!

Good job with the iPhone shots, Mommy!

Misc clips

I haven't been so good lately about video, I know.  Here are a few miscellaneous clips strung together from little moments I've caught on my iPhone over the past couple of weeks (I'm partial to the "70s" video setting these days)...

Through a door on Lansdowne Street

So about an hour and a half after the Red Sox game yesterday, our group was exiting a nearby bar and heading back toward dinner.  Tom, this free-spirited photographer friend of ours, said, "Danny, where do you think that door goes?" pointing to an opening on the side of Fenway Park.  Of course we decided to find out.

The funny thing about wandering around Fenway after a game is that the clean-up crews are so focused on their daunting task that they apparently just assume anyone who is there belongs there.  We had total freedom to wander, and took advantage - got down on the field, climbed around in the Green Monster - we even found a locker room... though it turned out to be the security team's locker room.

In the end getting in wasn't the problem - we had to find a security guard to let us out.  He didn't seem to mind too much.

A few shots.  More from yesterday in the April 2011 gallery.

First try on the balance bike

Another beautiful early spring day finds Sylvie and me in the driveway for much of the afternoon, relaxing and playing while Melissa takes a needed nap. We decided to try out the balance bike that Syl's aunt and uncle got her in the fall. Her legs are long enough... But it is going to take her a while to get used to the concept. Not bad for a first try though.

By the way, I filmed, edited, uploaded and posted this video without moving from my chair in the yard, all on my iPhone. Little miracle machine.

Fenway

Is COLD.

Good morning, good mood

Oka, so this is a bit of a reenactment of Sylvie's "wake up" this morning.  The genuine article came at 5:52 am, when she crawled into our bed and observed that the "windows have light."  Unsurprisingly, when it came time to go back to her room and get changed for the day, she declared herself "so, so tired" and climbed back under the covers.  That soon turned to jumping on the bed, though - and then jumping off the bed.

"I don't WANNA get up!"

Setting up

The leap!

Satisfaction
Melissa and I are off to Boston for a day with the Liggetts and O'Learys and some of the Liggetts' CT friends.  Red Slobs, dinner, then drinks to celebrate Jeff's 40th.  shhhh.  It's a surprise.

And finally, at long last, the April 2011 Gallery...

Artist

This masterpiece adorns the wall of Sylvie's school. She calmly assured me that once "the art show is over" I may have it for my "work wall". So I have dibs.
