Brace yourselves

This post is pretty rugged.

Our little girl inherited my strangely narrow jaw and this weird condition where the roots on the baby teeth don't dissolve the way they should. As a result, her little mouth was packed with too many teeth vying for position, and some of them were practically coming out her nostrils (not literally, but close enough).

So a couple of weeks ago, Melissa took her in to have SEVEN teeth extracted AT THE SAME TIME! And if that were not enough, the kid declined general anesthesia and opted for numbing only, so she was awake the whole time. (Shudder).  Such a brave little munchkin.

 

Two weeks later, it was time for braces!

Her mom and I think she looks great in them. And of course as every kid knows, new braces means ICE CREAM.

Tangentially related, on the topic of painful and annoying things, I dropped a 35 pound dumbbell on my big toe. Broke it quite convincingly. The good news is I can still cycle, and as I post this I'm 3.5 weeks in to the 4 -6 week healing process. I'm assuming 4.

House progress!

We now have walls! Drywall, at least. (That’s why everything is gray. It will be white eventually!)

And a front door, and porch windows. 

Fingers crossed for hardwood floors next week. 

A great Mother’s Day weekend

In addition to our Friday date night in Boston, Sylvie and I scouted out a Japanese grocery/deli in Arlington on Saturday on a hunt for good onigiri. Success! 

Sunday we showed Dan the house reno progress, did some flower shopping, and made dinner (Syl and Mom approved foods—salad, avocado toast, and of course fries). It was a great weekend!

Spring springing all over

 Spring seems like it is dragging its feet some here in the NE, with temps more of less sticking in the 40s and 50s for most of April. On the upside, the flowers popping up all over the yard at 150 Dakin have been a wonderful surprise. We didn't move in until late May, so we missed the early display last year.

We have been trying to spend more time outdoors, including with bike trips for lunches in Concord.

Last week we made a very cute feline friend while lunching at a favorite bakery.

New dog?

 Nope. Just Soph's first haircut since last August...

Sylvie and I went into Boston again last night for dinner, a walk through the park, and the ballet. 

DC school-ish trip

Wayland Middle School has a decades-long tradition of taking the 8th graders on a trip to DC. This year the trip was off, then on, then off again. A group of intrepid PTA parents decided to make it happen regardless. Sylvie and I decided to join in, coordinating our plans with her friend Kaileigh and Kaileigh’s mom and little brother.
