Easter brunch
Dan had to leave for Austin this morning, so it was just me and Syl. We both enjoyed it, although Syl ate all of the truffle hollandaise off of my eggs. That kid loves her mushrooms!

Not-So-Stellar Spellers...
For several years before we moved to Wayland, we heard tell of the annual Wayland Spelling Bee. Zachary Green is a four time champion, and Jess is a primary organizer of the event. We were away last year, but this time around Sylvie was excited to participate.
She pulled together two of her cronies, Megumi and Claudia. They dubbed themselves, optimistically, the "Stellar Spellers," and proceeded to... not practice or prepare in any way whatsoever.
But they looked formidable in their t-shirts this morning as they gathered, pre-event.
It was a nice boost to see a familiar face at the registration desk!
Heading in, tensions were running high. Syl found Megumi's shoulder a welcome place to lean.
The anticipation was nearly unbearable.
Once the Stellar Spellers took the stage, though, they seemed amped up to compete.
Attentive visitors to the blog will recognize that big bee as Jessica Green. She explained the rules: 10 rounds, double elimination for the first five, single elimination for the last five. So each team would have two misses before being eliminated, at least at the outset.
In round 1, the Stellar Spellers drew the word, "examine."
Strike one.
Disappointed but undaunted, they powered in to round two, where they drew "strength..."
But wrote, "S-T-R-E-N-T-H" (which, in fairness, was how the emcee pronounced the word, twice).
So that was that. The Stellar Spellers spent the final 30 minutes of the competition in spectator status, doubtless pondering what might have been if, for example, they had prepared for the Spelling Bee...
There's always next year!

It isn't exactly like Snowmass...
But on the other hand, Snowmass isn't a half hour from our driveway. Nashoba Valley, on the other hand, is.
Another "benefit": Syl can handle the black diamonds at Nashoba, no problemo. After a brief bout of braggadocio, she was remarkably open to my explanation of the notion of relative, as opposed to absolute, difficulty.

Happy... Spring?
Photos out the windows on a snowy March day...
And then of course we had to go outside. The supposed range was 10-18 inches. We easily hit the 18.
Probably the highlight of the day: I give you the return of Sophie - Hat Bandit.

Related: the snow seems to bring out the aggressive side of our dogs. I swear, if Soph could figure a way to duck Bruschi's devastating right hook, she'd be able to take him.
