Out with the boys

Yesterday Brendan called us up and invited us to join him and Baby Jake at Playtown Express, an indoor playground nearby in Hopkinton.  Melissa and I brought Syl there a few weeks ago and she loved it (that's where we discovered her love of slides).  Melissa is finally getting over her sinus infection but still felt a little low, so we made it a "boys plus Sylvie" outing.  As you can see, despite the almost overwhelming crowd, Syl and Jake had a great time.  Sylvie is absolutely fearless on the big slide - she got a lot of comments from other parents who had to coax their much older kids to let go at the top.  Sylvie pushed off so fast I almost missed my catch a couple of times! She also enjoys the "roller coaster" ride, but she's a little young yet for the bounce house.
Afterwards we went to Brendan and Jake's favorite restaurant, Friday's, where Brendan treated Syl to an entire adult portion of mac n' cheese - which, to my amazement, she pretty much polished off herself!  We didn't see much of Syl yesterday afternoon... three hour nap!

Video of Sylvie-Mom frolick

Some video to go with the photos I posted yesterday morning.  Note also Sylvie's reaction when she manages to push open the door to our guest room upstairs (where she's not allowed).

NarcisSylvie

A little bit too big...

Syl has a new-found interest in the tiny bed that her Great Grandma and Grandpa Halasz gave her for Christmas.  Not only is she spending a lot of time putting her baby dolls to bed (and getting them up) in it, she's also decided it looks pretty comfy...

I should mention that I've put tons of new photos in the February Gallery today...

The video clip is fun too.  Sylvie can and does spend a lot of time sitting by the Baby crib, trying to decide the best position for Baby.  The choices seem to be: Baby in crib, blanket on Baby; Baby on blanket (on floor); and blanket on Baby (on floor).  She has not decided yet which she prefers...

Frolicking with Mom

This post is fun for two reasons: (1) it has some great photos of Sylvie and her Mom at play last night, having a grand old time.  And (2) it shows just how much better Melissa is feeling since the antibiotics kicked in.

Don't try this at home

I realize I cannot keep posting "Sylvie on the slide" videos forever, cute as I find them personally.  This one has a few twists though:  First, she has decided to include one of her baby dolls in the fun.  Second, she finds the sight of her baby on the slide HILARIOUS. Third, she's really ramping up the dare-devil factor.  And fourth, she very clearly says "baby" several times.

Another ear infection!

...only this time it isn't Sylvie!  After feeling just terrible for almost two weeks now, Sylvie's mom finally went to the doc today.  Turns out she has a really bad sinus infection, PLUS an ear infection!  I didn't even know adults could get those, but apparently they can.  Right now, Melissa pretty much feels like this:
But she's on antibiotics now, so hopefully she'll be back to normal in short order.  Anyone with tips on how to alleviate the pain of a bad sinus infection should fire away (we know about the standing in a steamy shower one).  Sylvie is doing her part by being an especially good girl and giving Mom lots of hugs.

UPDATE (Thursday): The antibiotics are definitely helping, and Melissa is back to feeling like she just has a really bad cold (as opposed to feeling like her face is going to explode).  In other news, she found out today she has her first cavity!  Sylvie's Dad, for the record, has no cavities.  Dad will be assuming tooth-brushing monitoring duties for Sylvie from here on out.

The O'Leary Playtime Emporium

Sylvie ALWAYS has big fun at the O'Learys house!

Jake's Second Birthday

This morning Syl and I went to the O'Leary's house for a brunch to celebrate Jake's second birthday.  Mom was going to come, but she's still really under the weather and stayed home to rest and keep her germs contained.

This year featured special guests from Iowa by way of Scituate (where they are "snow-birding" for the winter)" Bob and Joan Kocher.  Sylvie enjoyed meeting yet another nice couple from Cedar Rapids... and playing with Jake and Madeline's endless supply of really fun toys.  Madeline, as usual, took very good care of her.

Video later, and more photos in the February gallery.

Happy birthday Jake!

How we spent our Saturday (Valentine's Day)

Valentine's Day was a pretty typical Saturday in Sylvie-World:
She had a morning story, read some (Valentine's Day!) mail, played a bit with Pax, shared a laugh with Dad and a snuggle with Mom...

And then of course we did some sliding, and a little bit of tickle torture from Dad.  Sylvie LOOOOOVES sliding.  She's getting a bit too daring at the top though - letting go of the railing while she stands at the edge of the slide and what-not.  A lesson-learning tumble is probably in the not-too-distant future.

Poor Mom has had a terrible cold for a whole week now, but she's getting better.

Tonight Mom and Dad are going out for a Valentine's Day "big people" dinner, and Aunt Mary is coming to stay with Syl - so she's looking forward to that!  And tomorrow we go to the O'Leary's house for Baby Jake's second birthday brunch.  I may take a photo or two.
