Some RISD art

Syl was pretty intimidated early in the program to learn she was expected to draw primarily with charcoals - a medium she had not had any prior experience with. I'd say she picked it up well! The first couple are digital, and the rest are large charcoals.

good to have this kid home

I missed my rain-or-shine dog hiking, bike riding, ramen-eating buddy. It is good to have her home.

Loving the Art School Life

Syl seems to be really enjoying RISD. The talent there is amazing, and she's been really challenged. It was fun to see all the student work at the end of session exhibition.

Off to Art School

Melissa and I took Syl to the pre-college art program at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). I cannot say we "drove" her, because SHE drove!

She has two nice roommates: one from San Francisco, and the other all the way from Shanghai!

She needed a LOT of supplies for the five week program.

I think she is going to have a nice time being an independent young woman in Providence.

June art dump

Syl let me photograph a year's worth of "doodles" from her school papers. She tells me sketching helps her focus. She got all As for the year, so I cannot argue!

Here is a sampling.

Self-portrait!

A lot more at this link.

Scenes of June

 June just flew by....

We did our Six Flags trip for the first time in a few years. Syl was excited to skip a day of school. They go too late anyhow...!

I did a really fun, really long tide from Bedford, MA to Stratton Mountain, VT with a great group of riders!

Syl and I celebrated Father's Day by going to dinner at Noon Hill, our old favorite, and then a concert (Modest Mouse and Pixies).

Syl drove her buds to get some ice cream.

We had some weather...

And we kept hiking...

And my cycling team held a fundraiser for the Pan Mass Challenge at the mighty Squirrel.
