Fun fall weekend

A beautiful November weekend just passed.   We tried to spend as much time outside as we could.  I had some fun with the iPhone photos...

Yep
This evening the O'Learys came over for an impromptu dinner - requested by Sylvie, who wanted them to play with her birthday toys.  As always, eventually they got into Sylvie's dress up chest (thanks Aunts!) These kids crack me up.

I have a strong feeling we're going to regret this

Melissa took Sylvie for a "mani/pedi" today.  I see nothing good in that look on her little face...

A Birthday in 8 photos

Lots of cleaning yet to go after an epic 4th birthday, and I am off to DC tomorrow.  So it is going to be a few days before I get the photos and video together.  In the meantime, a birthday in 8 photos...

Time sure does pass...

Madeline in Annie!

Tonight we had the pleasure of attending a production of Annie, featuring Madeline as Orphan #1 (of roughly 1208).  She did a great job!

Beforehand we had dinner with the O'Leary's (minus Madeline, who was warming up) and the Cocchiarellas, plus Linnie Phifer, in town for her granddaughter's show.

Fun evening!

A great birthday

Considering that I spent the bulk of it sitting at my desk writing a memo, it is quite a testament to my girls that I had an excellent 39th birthday yesterday.

I got home at my usual time - close to 8:00 - to find a very excited little one waiting eagerly for a promised "treat."  When I suggested we head upstairs for a bath, she was furious.  "But - but - but DAAAAAD!  Mommy said when you got home we gonna have birthday cake!"  Thus was the cat let out of the bag.  Since Syl was already past her bedtime, we busted out the (ice cream - Oreo!) cake and let Sylvie have her portion, which she devoured messily.  I opened some great presents, and then we headed upstairs.

After the munchkin was in bed, Melissa served me an awesome steak birthday dinner - an even rarer treat than it used to be, given her meat-eschewing ways.

The best part?  During our usual pre-bed cuddle Syl gave me an extra squeeze and asked if I had a good birthday.  Then she added, "I love you Dad. You're a great dad."  Doesn't get better than that.

Thanks to everyone for all the birthday wishes.  Now I embark upon my 40th year...
