Another relaxing weekend

Syl and her dad spent a lot of quality time together this weekend - Melissa is going into week three with a bad, bad cold and cough.  We think she's had two on top of each other, actually.

We took a bike ride and stopped to skip stones at Farm Pond in Sherborn.  Syl had a birthday party (seems there is one every week).  This one was her pal Sammy from school.  We hit BJ's, we watched the Patriots.  Capped it off with breakfast for dinner.  Another good weekend.

Funny bit of dialogue #1:

ME: Sylvie, we need to deal with this rebellious streak before you are a teenager, or we are going to have problems.

SYLVIE: [Looks at me pensively, then] Daddy, I think we're gonna have problems.

Funny bit of dialogue #2:

SYLVIE: Mommy, how does the baby get out of the mommy?

MELISSA: Ahhhh...

SYLVIE: Does the belly BREAK?

MELISSA: Ahhhh....

ME: This is all you.  I am not going near this.

MELISSA: Um, you know how, um...

SYLVIE: When I have a baby, I think I gonna name him Tomlin.

Watching the Pats
Watching the Patriots with Sylvie is getting fun.  I think she's not far from a basic understanding of the game (though he attention span is limited, obviously).  Yesterday she understood that the men in white were "the good guys," and the men in blue were "the bad ones."  She asked what the teams are called, and "the bad ones" were briefly "the Cowboys," and thereafter "the Bad Boys."  For whatever reason, for the second week in a row she was fixated on the players on the sidelines.  She cannot figure out why they are there, and why they are not playing.  "What are they doing?  The ones not playing - what are they DOING there?"  When she sees a hard hit she feels there ought to be some explanation to follow as to why one man dealt with the other so violently.  She does not view advancing the ball down field as sufficient rationale for a hard tackle (yet).  I'm working on her.

Pizza Maker

Always exciting to come home from work and find my girls makin' pizza.  Sylvie is getting very good at spreading the cheese evenly.  The sauce too, although tonight's was a white pie...

Yogi was not spotted

On a morning bike ride today the thought occurred to me, "this would be a perfect day for a picnic."  Sylvie was VERY enthusiastic, especially when we chose her favorite park as the venue.

Summer Revisited

The summer came back this weekend.  A frost last Thursday night.  Eighty-two and sunny today.  Good stuff.  We took advantage, but not with anything too too ambitious.

First yesterday, on request, we spent a little time at Oak Grove...

Followed by lunch at - where else? - C&L Frosty.  The menu was as it always is.

Then today we paid a visit to the Halloween Store.  Sylvie had decided she wanted to be a butterfly again this year, but she abruptly changed her mind when she learned we'll be going to the Liggetts' Halloween party in a few weeks.  We're not telling - it's going to be a surprise.  But no, she isn't going to be a screaming ghoul.

After that we hit Zaftigs for lunch (brunch really).  That put Syl in mind of cousin Aya, who she misses.

And finally, we went a' punkin' huntin' at Out Post Farm.  Per her usual, Sylvie picked out a big one and a little one - to which Mommy added a REALLY little one.

When we got home, Sylvie discovered that our garden is still working away, despite last week's frost.  This mutant cuke is almost as big as she is!

A fun weekend close to home, all-in-all.

Dinner Party

Melissa cooked a delicious pasta dinner for guests the Cocchiarellas and O'Learys.  The kids were wild and crazy all night... until about 10 when they settled in to watch Tangled in semi-comas.  A fun time.

Inspired by this first shot of Madeline (don't ask) I told the kids to give me their scariest faces.  Turns out our cute kids can in fact be pretty scary...

Celebrate Holliston

The rains held off for us once again Saturday, which was great news for the many volunteers who work hard every year to pull off the Celebrate Holliston event.

Sylvie had a lot of fun as usual with Jake and Madeline - topped off by a not-healthy-at-all lunch at Burger King...

The climbing wall you see Syl tackling below was no joke - I am making a fun video of her conquest.
