Syl and her dad spent a lot of quality time together this weekend - Melissa is going into week three with a bad, bad cold and cough. We think she's had two on top of each other, actually.

We took a bike ride and stopped to skip stones at Farm Pond in Sherborn. Syl had a birthday party (seems there is one every week). This one was her pal Sammy from school. We hit BJ's, we watched the Patriots. Capped it off with breakfast for dinner. Another good weekend.
Funny bit of dialogue #1:
ME: Sylvie, we need to deal with this rebellious streak before you are a teenager, or we are going to have problems.
SYLVIE: [Looks at me pensively, then] Daddy, I think we're gonna have problems.

Funny bit of dialogue #2:
SYLVIE: Mommy, how does the baby get out of the mommy?
MELISSA: Ahhhh...
SYLVIE: Does the belly BREAK?
MELISSA: Ahhhh....
ME: This is all you. I am not going near this.
MELISSA: Um, you know how, um...
SYLVIE: When I have a baby, I think I gonna name him Tomlin.

| Watching the Pats |
Watching the Patriots with Sylvie is getting fun. I think she's not far from a basic understanding of the game (though he attention span is limited, obviously). Yesterday she understood that the men in white were "the good guys," and the men in blue were "the bad ones." She asked what the teams are called, and "the bad ones" were briefly "the Cowboys," and thereafter "the Bad Boys." For whatever reason, for the second week in a row she was fixated on the players on the sidelines. She cannot figure out why they are there, and why they are not playing. "What are they doing? The ones not playing - what are they DOING there?" When she sees a hard hit she feels there ought to be some explanation to follow as to why one man dealt with the other so violently. She does not view advancing the ball down field as sufficient rationale for a hard tackle (yet). I'm working on her.
